Zelenskyy Travels to Jordan for Unplanned Security Discussions

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an unannounced trip to Jordan on Sunday to hold discussions on security with Jordanian officials, according to reports.

In a statement on Telegram, Zelenskyy said the meetings would center on security and coordination with international partners.

“The most important thing is security, and it is important that all partners make the necessary efforts. Ukraine is making its contribution. We have important meetings ahead of us,” he said.

Zelenskyy noted that since the outbreak of the US-Israel-Iran conflict in the Middle East, several regional countries have sought Ukraine’s assistance in countering Iranian drones.

The escalation has persisted since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, resulting in over 1,340 deaths, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as stated by reports. Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US forces, causing casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.

Earlier, Zelenskyy visited Saudi Arabia on Thursday to address the same security issues.

Following that visit, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said another country had joined the PURL program, which involves Ukraine purchasing US weapons, though he did not name the nation.

The PURL initiative, or Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List, was launched last July under NATO, enabling allies to fund the procurement of US weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as stated by reports.
